Burnsville High School graduate Scott Tinkham is a finalist for the National Student Production Awards in two categories for videos he created while he was a student at BHS. The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) announced the nominees on Sept. 12.
Tinkham’s video on a Dominican Republic Mission Trip is a finalist in the Arts and Entertainment category, and the documentary “JERRAD” is a finalist in the Short Form – Nonfiction category.
Tinkham earned five of the 15 Regional NATAS awards that Burnsville students received in the past three years. In addition to the NATAS awards, his film “JERRAD” won Best Documentary and Best Cinematography at the 2016 EDU Film Festival, the premier Minnesota film event for high school students.
Tinkham graduated from Burnsville High School in 2016 and is currently studying film production at Relativity School at Hollywood Center Studios in Los Angeles.
The National Student Production Awards presentation will be live-streamed from the Los Angeles campus of Emerson College on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at noon PDT. The broadcast will be available on Twitter and Facebook.
Honorees will receive a NATAS certificate and a crystal pillar award, emblazoned with the world famous EMMY® logo.
Burnsville High School junior Scott Tinkham won two 2015 Upper Midwest Region student video production awards on Sunday, April 12. Winners were announced at a ceremony held at the Mall of America.
Tinkham won in the “high school sports” category for videos which he shot and edited for the Burnsville football team. He also won the public service announcement category for a video on energy conservation.
Other Burnsville students were also nominated in five other categories: commercial, animation/graphics/special effects, director, editor and photographer.
The Upper Midwest Region includes schools from Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
Burnsville students have earned 12 awards over the past three years. The classes are taught by Dr. Tyler Krebs.
